Dozens of prisoners in Pelican Bay’s Security Housing Unit (SHU) called for an indefinite hunger strike to begin on July 1st, 2011. The strike lasted nearly four weeks until it was called on hold by the prisoner representatives when the CDCR was finally pushed to negotiate.
