This “Beyond Solidarity” event is one that clearly calls us to “Authentic Solidarity”. If we don’t see the connection between hunger strikers in Palestine, SHU inmates and others in California, and Guantánamo, our understanding of solidarity needs to deepen. I met with Pelican Bay SHU prisoners on July 9-10 at the start of their hunger strike. At noon, on Friday Sept. 6, CloseGitmo dot net is organizing a feeding through the tubes in front of the White House similar to how they are force-feeding Gitmo prisoners and how they threaten to torture California prisoners. I have been on water-only since July 8, so far have lost 50 lbs. On Monday, I go to the Pentagon to depict the force-feeding where the orders come from to torture. When it’s clear that CDCR perpetrates abuse in this way, I will go to Sacramento to show how the torture is carried out in the shadows. I fly to Oakland next week in time to participate in this event to learn more how to Meet the Standards Set by Prison Hunger Strikers. Adelante! andres (at) closegitmo.net
