“The SHU [Security Housing Unit] is abosolutely a form of torture…”

Family members and supports rally outside CA Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation (CDCR) headquarters in Sacramento yesterday to support the CA Hunger Strike and to protest the CDCR’s proposed changes to Security Housing Unit (SHU) regulations.

Listen to coverage of the rally and why prisoners are protesting conditions of their imprisonment, as well as how the CDCR justifies torture here.

  1. God bless all the family members, activist and humanitarian groups who stand with the prisoner’s hunger strike. The 5 core demands the prisoners are hunger striking over are just. I spent 10 years in California prisons on drug charges, some of it in solitary. I turned my life around writing novels and now have 7 on Amazon under Glenn Langohr. My newest novella, Underdog is about the hunger strike and how an inmate can be falsely labeled and put in solitary. I was interviewed on KHSU NPR on Easter. http://www.amazon.com/-/e/B00571NY5A rollcallthebook@gmail.com

  2. You need to consider the human being and not just “cost effective” models. Please stop torturing inmates sent to SHUs, which have no place in a civilized society.

  3. My brother has been in solitary confinement for 15 months now. I have contacted the Warden of the institutio, his case manager and yet they still do not know when his situation will be resolve. I also contacted the senator of Kansas and still no help. I do not know what to do next to help my brother.

  4. My Son has been in the SHU over 2 years now. We didn’t realize how awful they are being treated. We want to be able to trust the system however it seems as though it is the CO’s and the system that keep them there. They are not asking for the impossible or freedom, they are asking to simply do their time without hardship. They are in our prayers and my GOD Bless them all!
