What is the meaning of the California Prisoner Hunger Strikes?

Read this statement in support of the hunger strikers by Rashid Johnson.

Rashid is a prisoner in Virginia who has been held in segregation since 1993 (he is currently at Red Onion). While in prison he founded the New Afrikan  Black Panther Party (Prison Chapter). Rashid is also the artist who drew the image that was used extensively during the July strike, of the arms linked in unity and the crossed out spoon and fork.

You can also check out a book of his writings and art work, which has been banned as “gang literature” by Pelican Bay, here.

  1. I am grateful that the prisoners in the SHU and elsewhere, like Calipatria, Centinella and others, have united across racial lines for 1 purpose, the 5 Core demands, which only ask for Truth and Justice be afforded and redemption considered back into the equation! The CDC has an R at the end thanks to Gov Swartz, not that he did much good, but that R stands for Rehabilitation! http://www.amazon.co.uk/-/e/B00571NY5A UK author page for Glenn Langohr
