Call for Action!

The call for solidarity to people outside prison is a call for us to build a stronger movement against the prison industrial complex, all violence and torture. The more creative and dynamic ways people outside prison come together and show their support for the hunger strikers, the better!

As we received more reports of hunger striker’s medical conditions deteriorating, supporters outside need to work tirelessly and urgently to support the prisoners in winning their demands NOW. It’s best for events to be coordinated as soon as possible.

Since the CDCR has shown no meaningful sign that they are taking the demands seriously, we need to intensify pressure on legislators to get involved, visit the hunger strikers and make sure the CDCR negotiates with the prisoners and their approved outside mediation team, immediately and in good faith. We also need to draw more wide-spread public attention to this issue.

Please organize events that work to mount pressure to win the prisoner’s demands. Click here for printable flyers, posters and other outreach materials.

Some Requests & Suggestions for Events/Actions:

  1. Scheme up something creative! inspiring! strategic!
  2. Document your event/action and send Prisoner Hunger Strike Solidarity (PHSS) photos, descriptions, report backs! We will put the info on this blog and share this info with the prisoners
  3. Send PHSS outreach info on the action/event beforehand so we can put it on the blog’s events page and help publicize
  4. Amplify the voices of the prisoners!
  • This is a struggle initiated by the prisoners themselves, calling for comrades and allies to make sure their voices are heard outside prison, so solidarity will be stronger when keeping this in mind. Check out the prisoner’s demands here

If you can coordinate event, please contact us: prisonerhungerstrikesolidarity.wordpress.com

  4. Is there a flyer pdf explaining the hunger strike that already exists and could be posted here?

    • there’s a pdf one-pager we’ve put mostly in press packets, but also distributed to other people on the press page of the blog, and there’s the flyer we’ve been using for the rally in san francisco under the events page in the description of the July 9th rally. Some people in other cities have used that rally flyer and just changed the block on the left-side where it says the SF rally to the details of their rallies.
hope this is helpful! let us know if not-

Hey, we here in Ashland have been trying to figure out the best way to show support to our brothers in Pelican Bay, we are trying to set up a awareness demo here in Ashland, something like that is easy enough to pull off, but since we are so close to PB we were wondering if there was anything more direct we could do. Is there anything happening in Crescent City or near the prison itself which we could throw our energy into? Has there been thoughts of a large noise demo outside the prison? Let us know what we can do beyond the basic awareness campaigns.

    In Solidarity, Phronesis

  17. I’m in Orange County, California if anyone wants to protest at the prime spot on the boardwalk of Laguna Beach? Email me. I am so proud of the hunger strikers! This scares law enforcement because they are used to business as usual- infighting amoung the different races and gangs in prison, now they are united for a righteous cause-The 5 Core Demands must be looked at! Where is the Redemption in criminal justice? Who are the real criminals? I served 10 years in California’s level 4 prisons for drug charges and turned my life around writing novels- http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0056C0LW4
